ISIS claims responsibility for Dhaka hostage situation – two police officers dead, 40 more injured

At least two police officers are dead and 40 more injured after gunmen laid siege to a bakery in the Bangladeshi capital of Dhaka popular with foreigners Friday night.
ISIS has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack, which has reportedly developed into a hostage situation.

According to Agence France-Presse, the attackers barged into the Holey Artisan Bakery in Dhaka’s diplomatic quarter shouting “Allahu Akbar” (God is the Greatest) and spraying bullets at around 9:20 p.m. local time.

A senior Bangladeshi government official confirmed to AFP that there were several people inside the restaurant, including an Italian national who worked there.

A statement by the ISIS-affiliated news agency Amaq shared by its supporters said the terrorist group’s commandos attacked “a restaurant frequented by foreigners in the city of Dhaka in Bangladesh.
