Islamic State terrorist group launches massive assault on Deir Ezzur city

The ISIS terrorist group launched another massive operation in Eastern Syria to capture Deir Ezzur city following its recent raid on Palmyra.
ISIS terrorists struck government positions in Deir Ezzur, nearby areas of the city’s airbase and near Panorama checkpost East of the Deir Ezzur city, but the Syrian Army soldiers engaged in fierce clashes with them and fended off their attacks.

Heavy fighting erupted between the army men and ISIS in the regions of al-Huweiqa, al-Baqaliyeh and al-Roshdiyeh.

The ISIS targeted army positions with its bomb-laden drones, but the army units destroyed all the unmanned aircraft.

The terrorists later started a major offensive but were forced to retreat after hours of clashes.

According to the latest reports, the ISIS intends to re-launch fresh attacks on army positions in Deir Ezzur concurrent with its raid on government positions in Homs province.

The ISIS attack on Deir Ezzur comes after the Sunday capture of Palmyra by the terrorists in neighboring Homs province.

In the meantime, Deputy Director of the Damascus Center for International and Strategic Studies Taleb Ibrahim said that one of the most important things to note about the assault on Palmyra was the “strategy of hornets” used by ISIS.

“They are fighting using what they call the strategy of ‘hornets.’ In the beginning of their attacks, they send a small number of militants to attack army sites or cities, etc. After that, they come in waves, wave after wave until they capture the city or get what they want,” he added.
