Israeli authorities issue travel warning for possible ISIS attacks in Turkey, Jordan, Egypt

The Israeli National Security Council’s Counterterrorism Bureau has issued a number of travel warnings for citizens planning to travel to Turkey, Jordan or Egypt and warned them of possible terror attacks by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

According to Jerusalem Post story on Tuesday, the bureau warned Israelis in a statement to avoid places where they would be prime targets for ISIL militants, including in Turkey, during a series of Jewish holidays that starts with Jewish New Year on Sept. 20-22 and ends with the Sukkot festival from Oct. 5 to 13.

“At this time, terror organizations, especially the Islamic State [ISIL], are highly motivated to carry out terrorist attacks all over the world,” the statement said.

The Counterterrorism Bureau in the Office of the Prime Minister warned citizens traveling to Turkey, noting that İstanbul and other Turkish cities have been the target of a wave of both ISIL and Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) attacks in recent years, adding that Israeli institutions have been especially targeted on occasion.

The bureau also warned Israelis to avoid travel to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt in the foreseeable future, and leave the peninsula immediately if already there.
