Kurdish Peshmerga forces arrest 1,000 ISIS terrorists during the battle for Hawija

The Directorate of Asayish (Security) in Dibis district in Kirkuk Province announced on Monday the arrest of about a thousand members of the Islamic State (IS) organization since the start of the operation to liberate Hawija district, southern Kirkuk.

Chief of Dibis Security, Major Ali said that these detainees were hiding among the displaced people of Hawija and admitted their membership with IS or they had at least assisted the group.

The detained militants were all residents of Hawija and their families were sent to the camps, said the official, adding that around seven thousand IDPs arrived in Kirkuk from Hawija.

The number of the IS militants arrested by the Peshmerga forces during Hawija assault reached one thousand, according to sources.

Despite their hostile and aggressive offensives against the Peshmerga forces, the Peshmerga troops treated the militants humanely and provided them with food and drinking water.

Hawija was the last bastion of extremists in northern Iraq which was declared free on October 5th after only two weeks of fighting in the area.
