A sniper allegedly fighting for ISIS sniggered as he gunned down an innocent woman trying to flee the Battle for Mosul.
A group of around 10 people – including young children – can be seen in the footage, apparently filmed by the sniper, carrying bags and belongings as they make a bid for freedom.
But the sniper fires at the group and can be heard sniggering before falling silent.
The camera eventually finds the targeted group of civilians again and a woman’s body can be seen lying still on the ground.
A boy bravely races to her side while other members of the group of run for safety.
The body is then dragged to a side of the street.
According to Conflict News, the sickening video shows an “ISIS snipers targeting fleeing civilians” but the footage has not been verified.
ISIS fighters have been using suicide bombers in a desperate attempt to slow the Iraqi army’s advance as they drive the jihadists out of the city of Mosul, military commanders recently revealed.
Iraqi army sources have predicted victory in Mosul this week after eight long months of conflict against ISIS.
Three years ago ISIS declared the founding of its “caliphate” over parts of Iraq and neighbouring Syria.
Lieutenant General Sami Aridhi said ISIS fighters were increasingly detonating explosives among civilians fleeing towards security forces and had even used women suicide bombers.
He told state television: “They have begun to wait for the troops to reach them and then blow themselves up. They can’t do any more than that.
“They surge forward just to obstruct the troops, not to hold land or retain any other positions because, God willing, their end is clear to everyone and they are convinced that this is end.”
