ISIS terrorist group claims responsibility for sunday’s attack on security forces in Kirkuk

Islamic State (IS) has claimed responsibility for the offensive that resulted in the death of security personnel and a senior Arab tribal figure earlier this week.

The IS-affiliated news agency Amaq confirmed on Monday that eight Iraqi security members, including six officers and two colonels, were killed in an operation by the group’s armed men on Riyad-Hawija road, Iraqi News reported.

On Sunday, Kirkuk police confirmed that the militants attacked the security forces in al-Rubaida village, south of Kirkuk, killing several security members, including Fadel al-Sabaawi, police department chief and his son.

The militants also attacked the passing vehicle of Walid Jeheshi, the head of Jeheshi tribe on Sunday and killed him along with his wife on the road between Kirkuk and Hawija.
